J & H Williams Pty Ltd was started in 1946 in Port Adelaide, a suburb of Adelaide, the capital city of South Australia by Jack and Harold Williams, initially as suppliers of plumbing fittings, and subsequently as plumbing contractors. With the post war development, broader industrial opportunities became available, and the company moved into this field carrying out large-scale pipe work installation, particularly within the expanding motor industry.
Jack’s son Graham joined the company, and J & H Williams Holdings Pty Ltd was formed, providing sheet metal and light fabrication services, and developing into the supply, installation and maintenance of dust and fume control and bulk material handling equipment.
Graham succeeded Jack as Managing Director, and J & H Williams Holdings developed additional engineering capability, expanding the dust and fume control services into special purpose machinery and specialized paper waste handling equipment.
Jack’s grandson, Craig Williams, joined the company as the third generation at Williams. Craig ultimately taking over as Managing Director and put his personal stamp on the company by shifting focus to high precision light fabrication and in particular, the supply of components to the defence industry under the banner of Williams Laser Cutting and Fabrication.
This shift in emphasis has seen the company move further in the direction of precision fabricated component supply, expanding into the fields of agriculture/aquaculture, water supply, specialized rail transport equipment and marine equipment, whilst retaining an emphasis on defence industry work, culminating recently with a contract to supply HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) ducting and associated fabricated components for the Air Warfare Destroyer project being undertaken by the Australian Submarine Corporation in Adelaide.
Since our modest beginnings in 1946, we have evolved into a leading, dynamic engineering firm utilizing state of the art equipment and practices to offer a variety of light engineering services to numerous industries locally, nationally and internationally.
