SEA4000 – Air Warfare Destroyer with ASC Ship Building

J&H Williams has played an important role as a supplier to ASC Pty Ltd, Australia’s leading naval defence shipbuilder.

Williams were approached in February 2009 to assist in a pilot program to manufacture a prototype HVAC (Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning) system to test the planning, resourcing, technical development and procurement functions of ASC and their suppliers. 
ASC ran three pilot programs concurrently.

Williams worked with ASC to manufacture and develop the systems and drawings to produce the final item.

On successful completion, Williams were invited to enter into a competitive tender process for the supply and manufacture of the HVAC components for the ASC built blocks.

Part of this process was to prove:

• Sustainability as a company;
• Financial strength;
• Quality capable (to standard)
• Environmental; and
• Technical capability.

The tender process took several months and, after negotiations and other probing from ASC, Williams were awarded the contract to supply ASC with the HVAC components for the ASC built blocks.

The first purchase order was issued for the first block in February 2010.

The project involves the design & manufacture of HVAC items for the ASC built blocks.

In its successful work with ASC, J&H Williams have managed work with a variety of subcontracting services and have delivered to very high standards for this defence project.
